This year marked the 17th anniversary for DanceAthens and we were thrilled to be part of it!
DanceAthens is an annual dance festival held in downtown Athens, Georgia at the historic Morton Theatre. Over the past 17 years, Dancefx has hosted tens of thousands of performers and audience members from around the Southeast uniting the dance community on Athens’ most historical stage. The festival has also brought together master teachers such as Mia Michaels, Dave Scott, Brooke Lipton, Benji Schwimmer, Courtney Galiano, Noelle Marsh, Ben Suak, Ryan Ramirez, Jamie Goodwin, April Cook and Frank Chavez.
Our contemporary and jazz performance company, Charleston Dance Project, and members from Holy City Sirens joined forces to bring a piece to perform at the festival's showcase. We worked endlessly and after only a few rehearsals, we were ready to show DanceAthens what Charleston has to offer. We made our performance season debut with a stunning piece titled “Reaching” to ‘The Way I Do’ by Bishop Briggs, choreographed by Alexa Gould and DJ Fullante.
Afterwards we took a night on the town and celebrated our first performance of the season with amazing specialty crepes at Pauleys Crepe Bar.
Masterclasses & Workshops
Our dancers also had the opportunity to take classes throughout the weekend from amazing industry choreographers, including Dave Scott (SYTYCD, You Got Served, Stomp the Yard), Brooke Lipton (Glee, Britney Spears, Madonna, Janet Jackson), and April Cook (Broadway Dance Center, MainStage Productions, Dance Theater USA).
Another successful DanceAthens weekend for the books!
We can’t wait for next year!
