Dancers Against Cancer: Avira's Benefit Showcase

In September 2017, 2-year-old Avira Boyd was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called “Rhabdomyosarcoma”. Less than 5% of children have been diagnosed with this specific type of cancer. Avira is the daughter of one of our beloved dancers, Allie Boyd. The financial burden weighs heavily on Avira's family as she fights her battle with cancer. Avira is currently being treated with chemotherapy and radiation and she will eventually have surgery to remove the remainder of a tumor.

We helped organize and held a benefit showcase to honor Avira's fight and her mother's passion for dance, with all proceeds going towards their medical expenses. We were thrilled to have Peace Love Hip Hop, Creative Edge Dance Center, Emily Deahl, Only Imagine Studio Dance Photography & Art, Dance Conservatory of Charleston, Ballet Academy of Charleston, The Dance Arts Studio, Charleston Dance Project of Dancefx Charleston, Break Circuit Crew, and more performing in the showcase. It was beautiful to see the Charleston dance community come together and unite under one roof for this very special cause.

The camaraderie between the dance studios and performers was touching. Cheering each other on, high five’s from one another was just so beautiful to watch. There was so. much. talent. It was incredible to watch the uniqueness and passion of each and every performance. Thank you to all the performers for giving your time to come together by sharing your talent for such a wonderful cause.
